Making Warm Glass HOT!” Beginning Glass Combing

Full Day Class Description
Create beautiful, free-flowing designs and patterns in this introduction class to manipulating and combing glass strips at high temperatures. Explore glass selection, strip cutting, strip-set preparation, and appropriate tools for this “hot” glass technique. Firing schedules, safety, and kiln configuration will also be discussed. Students will create two 6”x 6” combed tiles using two different techniques. Creative finishing techniques that include border selection and creation will also be presented. Previous fused glass experience is recommended.

“Beyond Hot!” Creative Glass Combing

Full Day Class Description
Enhance your basic glass combing skills as we move beyond straight line strip combing in this high-temperature, kiln-fired process. Participants will explore changing the direction of the glass within the strip sets to plan and create complex strip designs as well as examine ways to create pictorial or natural images such as hearts, plants and butterflies. Explore glass selection, strip cutting, strip-set preparation, and appropriate tools for this “hot” glass technique. Firing schedules, safety, and kiln configuration will also be discussed. Each student will create two 6”x 6” combed tiles using two different techniques. Creative finishing techniques that include border selection and creation will also be presented. Previous glass combing experience is recommended.

“Making Warm Glass HOT!” 2 Day Intensive Workshop

2-Day Workshop
This two-day glass combing experience provides comprehensive discovery of the basic and advanced high-temperature, kiln-fired glass combing process. Explore glass selection, design, preparation and appropriate tools for this “hot” glass manipulation process. Firing schedules, safety, and kiln configuration also will be discussed. Create a total of four combed pieces during this two-day event: two strip combings plus two advanced designs to be selected by the student. Creative finishing techniques that include border selection and creation will also be presented. Previous fused glass experience is recommended.
